Madison Auction - Wide
Madison Auction sought to create a space not only for auctions but also for inspiration through various articles.

Beyond the confines of a cellar exists a vast world of wine flavors waiting to be explored by avid enthusiasts and dedicated collectors. While wine tastings and auctions are normally held as events, online auctions have definitely risen in popularity over the past few years. In the spirit of creating a wine community in Asia, Madison Auction sought to create a smooth and delightful experience that allows enthusiasts and bidders alike to participate online.

Serving a personalized experience

Every wine enthusiast has their own taste, and it’s important to design Madison Auction’s website with that in mind. We wanted the website to respond not only to various devices, but also to differing contexts of users. The homepage was designed to change depending on whether the user has signed in or not — giving them a more intimate view of the website right upon getting on the platform.

Providing options for curation

Wine collectors have a keen eye for detail and are always on the lookout for one-of-a-kind lots. Lot cards were designed to easily communicate important details that collectors take note of with every bid. Beautiful photos also put a spotlight on each lot, giving a premium look and feel with every bottle that is up for auction. Lastly, each lot can be added to your favorites for viewing later — easily creating what feels like a digital wine cellar of your own.

Simplifying online auctions

Given that there are a lot of factors to consider before bidding, information design should be properly implemented in detail pages which house a lot of content. This was easily accomplished through a robust and modular type scale that makes good use of sizing, spacing, and styling to establish visual hierarchy. With the most important information displayed immediately and a clear call to action in place, bidders can quickly sign in and bid on lots that they’ve kept an eye on.
